AEN(additional educational needs) Department.

St. Christoper’s secondary school believes that all learners

Have the equal right to access a balanced and holistic education. To promote this the AEN Department works with students to develop their academic ability. The department also strives to nurture self-esteem and confidence to ensure that as the Students move on they are equipped to reach their full potential.

St. Christoper’s secondary aims to be an inclusive school. We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual learners or groups of students.

This means that all learners are provided with equal opportunity to learning and development in the most appropriate environment. We make this a reality through paying attention to a diverse group of learners including those learners with additional learning needs

The British National curriculum guidelines and the SEN code of Practice 2014 inform our planning that meets the diverse needs of all learners. We achieve this through:
• setting appropriate learning challenges for all learners
• overcoming potential barrier to learning and assessment
• Providing other curricular opportunities for individual learners and groups
• Commitment to the Core aims for students (Every Child Matters).

To identify student with learning difficulties and to help them access the curriculum to Reach their potential.

There is a universal approach to Learning Support, in which every student receives
Differentiation in the classroom. Teachers skillfully plan learning for student matched to
Their level and next steps in order to both support and challenge them.
